THE M&M CONNECTION
True Success
As a young man I was always interested in success. I wanted
to be rich and well known. I don’t think I was unusual in my thinking.
After all, it’s all a part of the “American Dream”, isn’t it? Ah, the
“American Dream”, that elusive target that only a precious handful
achieve in a lifetime. One needs to know that there is nothing wrong
about this dream, but it needs to be seen as a part of life, not life
itself.
Let’s look at ‘success’. First, we must determine what the
definition of success really represents. The “American Dream” defines it
as, wealth, position and honor. Again, there’s nothing wrong with these
things, provided they are used for good and not evil, however this is
not the primary definition found in Webster’s Dictionary. The main
problem with this definition is that, by definition, it eliminates 99%
of all people from achieving success in their lifetime. The Fortune 500
list, Hall of Fame, Who’s Who in business, politics, etc. is a very
elite group. The “American Dream” doesn’t work out for everyone. It’s an
elusive gold ring for most that can leave good people wanting.
However, if we look at the first definition in Webster’s
dictionary, it says, “A favorable outcome.” Obviously, having wealth,
position and honor is a favorable outcome. It was for me in 1988 when I
was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year for
New Jersey. It can
happen in the USA easier than anywhere else.
Each of us needs to have favorable outcomes in our lives
and that is possible for everyone who follows God in his or her life.
There are thousands of ways to have favorable outcomes in life, but they
all require effort and time. Here are just a few. Having great children
or a great job; living a peaceful and joyful life; owning a home, car or
business; getting a college education or having good friends and good
parents. Touching someone’s life in a time of need or helping a student
pass a test is a powerful and favorable outcome.
One of the ways I have found success is having a great
marriage. Fifty-four percent of all Christian marriages are ending in
divorce. Having a great marriage, for me, is a major part of true
success. God has intended for each of us, who are married and follow
Christ, to be blessed with a great marriage. If you aren’t seeing this
as one of your favorable outcomes you need to do something about it.
The reason you need to have a great marriage is because the
Christian marriage is directly connected to your job and how well you
will do it. Additionally, your marriage is directly connected to seeing
your department or company touched by God. Your marriage is directly
connected to a great move of God in your home, workplace and your city
in our time.
Where have you found favorable outcomes in your life?
Wherever it was it was a point of success. We are called to be
successful in our lives. So, if you want to achieve great success, go
for it, but make sure you’re seeking true success.
Over the coming months we will look at the areas in your
life that can impact what you can do to have ‘True Success’ through your
job and, if you are married, through your marriage.
Be blessed and be a blessing,
Jack
